Busy Update

I’m still weeding my way through the project I mentioned in my other post and trying to get things wrapped up. I’ve got another two weeks on it ruling my life so until then you probably won’t see much going up here. I do however want to encourage people to not just vote on the topics I added in the Skribit widget but also post some new ones for me to consider writing about here. I’d love to see what you want to see more of on the blog.

I do want to mention that I’ve begun (in the very spare moments that I have during this project) editing a new theme for the blog because there have just been too many blogs popping up with this theme. I made a lot of small changes here and there to this theme, though, so I have to make sure I port everything over properly. Look for that to pop-up in the future as well.

Skribit Widget Added

I’ve recently been very busy with client work that is taking up all of my time (and if I’m not working on it, I’m spending my free time brainstorming it) so I’ve had very little time to dedicate to anything else. I did, however, manage to add a Skribit widget to the sidebar. Read more »

AS3: Papervision3D FreeCamera Movement

One of the things that I was curious about when using Papervision3D was how the camera moves around and tracks other objects. Originally I set up a Camera3D object and moved it around to look at other objects but that wasn’t playing well with the way I was tweening the camera around to look at certain objects. I switched over to the FreeCamera3D and this was the result. Read more »

Flash IDE Text Strokes

I’m currently working on a project where the designer LOVES to use stroked text. As you probably know by now, there is no text stroking in Flash unless you bring the asset in already stroked from another program or you break the text apart and add a stroke to the broken up shapes. There is, however, a little trick you can do to keep your text editable and add a stroke in Flash. Read more »

AS3: DistortionTweener Done Easier In Papervision3D

Well, the first thing I have done in Papervision3D is a replica of what I essentially did with the DistortionTweener (or actually the reason I made the DistortionTweener). It is much easier to do and takes a lot less to do (the original DistortionTweener, with research, took me about a week to do while this took me about an hour). Keep in mind the code is probably not super optimized as this is THE first thing I’ve done with PV3D. Read more »

Papervision3D FDT3 Template

After writing about Eclipse/FDT3/Papervision3D and my heavy usage of templates to speed up my workflow, the natural thing to do was to create a Papervision3D template to use in conjunction with FDT3. You can grab the template from the Downloads page at any time (if I update it in the future, the newest version will be there with a note on when it was updated) or by clicking here. Read more »

Setting Up Papervision3D in Eclipse/FDT3

I’ve recently decided to take the plunge and start playing around a bit with Papervision3D. I’ve seen too many cool things coming out of that camp and I wanted to get my hands down and dirty and experimenting with the possibilities to move my work forward. I use Eclipse/FDT3 on a Mac so getting up and running with PV3D was relatively simple. Read more »

Sponsors

As you can see, I’ve added sponsors to the right hand sidebar. Not only did I pick sites that I think are actually worth signing up for, but if you sign up by clicking one of those you’re helping the site so please do if you have some free time. It’s well worth signing up with those sites as they have some great source files as well as components. It will help people like yourself who come here to try and learn to look at other’s source files. Plus, in the case of FlashDen, the source files are VERY cheap and well worth the money. Have fun!

Setting Up Eclipse & FDT3

There are some things that I want to write about on this blog that I feel like I can’t do as of yet because some of them are geared more towards Eclipse/FDT3 users or at least the way I use those tools. That being said, I figured I should give a rundown of how I install Eclipse and FDT3 and how I set up my environment. FDT comes with a hefty price tag, that’s for sure, but it’s well worth it if you are serious about Flash development. If you just want to try it out, there is a 30-day trial so you can use that for now. Read more »

Extend Links & Downloads Updated

I’ve updated the Extend links in the right sidebar to include a bunch of engines you can use to extend Flash’s capabilities. Stuff that’s been around for a while like 3D engines as well as some of the newer physics engines that are coming out. This will also help me in the future to keep track of all these things as I start to delve into them.

I’ve also updated the Downloads section with my latest FDT3 preferences in anticipation of some upcoming posts this week. Enjoy!
